Mrs. Mary Texcena Griffin McCourt, 88, widow of Frank William McCourt and 
daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Cornelius Griffin, died at a Norfolk 
hospital yesterday at 3 p.m. Mrs. McCourt was a native of Portsmouth and had 
spent her entire life in this community, residing at 414 Painter Street at the 
time of her death. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. C. W. Gerloff, Jr., Mrs. 
Frank J. Cato, Miss Flora E. McCourt, Mrs. Raymond H. Burns and Mrs. Charles W. 
Woodsend, all of Norfolk; four sons, the Rev. Francis J. McCourt, pastor of St. 
Ann’s Catholic Church, Edenton, N.C., Charles V., John L. and Robert I. Mcourt, 
all of Norfolk; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The body will be 
taken from the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments to Blessed Sacrament Catholic 
Church, of which Mrs. McCourt was a member, where requiem mass will be said by 
her priest son. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Rosary services will 
be held at the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments this evening at 8:30 o’clock.
