Virginian-Pilot, September 16, 1906
Mrs. Emily Susan McKown [tombstone McCowen], wife of Thomas McKown [tombstone 
McCowan], died suddenly at her home, No. 339 Chapel Street, at 5 o'clock a.m. 
yesterday of apoplexy, in the 73rd year of her age. The deceased was a native 
of the Eastern Shore, but had been a resident of Norfolk over half a century, 
where she was widely known and highly esteemed for the many excellent traits of 
character. The funeral will be solemnized from the family residence at 5 
o'clock this afternoon, and will be conducted by the Rev. T. J. Taylor, of 
Queen Street Methodist Church.
