McCoy, the young fireman who was killed by the falling of the roof while bravely fighting the flames at the Monticello Hotel, was 26 years of age, and is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. F. McCoy; three sisters, Mrs. W. W. Cowan, Mrs. J. L. Moser and Mrs. J. E. Waters, and a brother, Fred McCoy, all of Norfolk. The body will be taken from the residence of his parents, 1231 Highland Avenue, to the Brambleton Avenue M. E. Church for funeral service, Thursday afternoon January 3, at 2:30 o’clock. Services will be conducted by Rev. A. L. Franklin, pastor of the church. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery. Virginian Pilot January 3, 1918 Funeral of Fireman McCoy The funeral of Charles A. McCoy of the Norfolk Fire Department, who was killed Tuesday morning while fighting the Hotel Monticello fire, will take place this afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the residence of his parents, 1231 Highland Avenue, will be conducted by Rev. A. L. Franklin, pastor of the Brambleton Avenue Methodist Church. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Virginian Pilot January 4, 1918 The funeral of Charles A. McCoy, of the Norfolk Fire Department, who lost his life in the Monticello Hotel fire Tuesday, was held yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Brambleton Avenue M. E. Church, Rev. A. L. Franklin, pastor of the church, officiating. The funeral was largely attended, a detachment from the fire department being present under the command of Capt. George H. Little. There were numerous beautiful floral tributes, among them being a standing wreath from the hose company No. 3 of the fire department; standing wreath from the joiner’ shop, navy yard; standing wreath from the Norfolk Fire Department; wreath from L. O. O. Moose; “gates ajar” from boyfriends. Interment was in Elmwood Cemetery. The pall-bearers were: N. F. Jones, Walter Purnell, Major Moore, from the L. O. O. M.; Captain E. S. Stephens, J. P. Powers, fire department; L. Brinkley and J. H. Twiford.
