Linda Merritt McCubbins, 62, passed away suddenly in her home on January 29, 2021. 
She was the daughter of Loretta "Lolly" Varelli Merritt and the late Leonard M. 
Merritt, Sr.
Linda was a lifelong resident of Norfolk and earned both her Undergraduate and 
Graduate Degrees from Old Dominion University. She was the Social Studies Dept. 
Chair and teacher of US History and Government at Catholic High School, of which 
she was an alumna. She also had been an Adjunct Professor of History and 
Humanities at Tidewater Community College since 1999. Linda loved to travel! Most 
notably her frequent trips to New York City and her annual summer trips to Italy, 
that she planned for her CHS students. Linda was an outstanding educator and loved 
by many.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 27 years, Ronald McCubbins; 
her son, Joseph McCubbins; her mother, Lolly; her brother, Leonard "Lenny" 
Merritt, Jr.; her sister, Laura Walkup (Greg); brothers-in-law, Robert "Bob" 
McCubbins (Debby) and Jerry McCubbins (Judy); sister-in-law, Helen "Bunny" 
McCubbins; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved Samoyed, Lana.
A mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2021, at Blessed 
Sacrament Church, Norfolk, followed by a graveside service at St. Mary's Cemetery, 
Norfolk. For those who will like to attend the mass in person, please sign up in 
advance at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church; the mass will also be live-streamed 
and the link can be found at Blessed Sacrament's website.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mid-Atlantic Samoyed Rescue.
