B17 A funeral service was held at First Calvary Baptist Church on Sunday for Miss Rosa McDaniel of 911 Philpotts road, who died at her home on Friday after a short illness. The Rev. C. E. Griffin, First Calvary pastor, officiated at the rites. A native of Scotland Neck, NC, Miss McDaniel was a Norfolk resident for 35 years. She was employed at the Seeing Eye School for Blind in Raleigh until she retired. She also served as organist of Shiloh Baptist Church in Scotland Neck for 35 years. After she came to Norfolk she was active in First Calvary Church. The deceased is survived by two nephews, Jesse McDaniel of Norfolk and Charles Hyman of New York; five nieces, Mrs. Lottie Peele, with whom she made her home; Mrs. Vivian Robinson, also of Norfolk; Mrs. Ruth Tazewell of Portsmouth; Miss Mamie McDaniel and Mrs. Gertrude Cherry of Greenville NC. Residents of other areas attending the funeral were Mrs. Bessie Coleman of New Jersey, L. Taylor of New York; Mrs. Arlene Cook of Washington, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert James and Mrs. Celeste Ward of Scotland Neck.
