Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Saturday, September 8, 1990 
Mary Hopkins McDevitt, 78, of the 5800 block of Townley Ave., a retired 
secretary, died Sept. 7, 1990, in a hospital.



Mrs. McDevitt, a native of Norfolk, had retired from the Norfolk Police 
Department after 32 years. She was a member of Royster Presbyterian Church.



Survivors include a daughter, Marjorie M. Streicher of Norfolk; a son, James V. 
McDevitt of Rocky Mount, N.C.; a sister, Nancy Chalker of Westminster, Md.; a 
brother, Jackson R. Hopkins of Norfolk; six grandchildren and three great-
grandchildren.



The graveside service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday in Elmwood Cemetery by 
the Rev. O. Morton Harris Jr. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8 p.m. 
today in Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel.
