Virginian-Pilot  December 2, 1917
James McDermin, a well-known and highly esteemed citizen of Norfolk, died 
yesterday morning at 7:20 o’clock at his home, 619 Graydon Park, after a 
lingering illness. He was 77 years old, and was a native of Edinburgh, Scotland. 
He had lived 50 years in Norfolk. He was a member of Pocahontas Council Royal 
Arcanum, and a charter member both of the Norfolk Catholic Knights of America 
and the Norfolk Elks. Surviving him are three daughters, Mrs. M. J. Murphy, Mrs. 
J. A. Kennedy and Miss Mary A. McDermin, all of Norfolk; two sons, William J. 
McDermin, of Norfolk, and Thomas P. McDermin, of Philadelphia; five 
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. J. E. Flynn, of 
Norfolk; and a brother, Bernard McDermin, of Scotland. The funeral will take 
place tomorrow at noon at the residence. Burial will be in St. Mary’s cemetery.
