Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to the church building fund or Mercy Hospice of Horry County. Mr. McDermott died Monday, Nov. 27, 1995. Born in Baltimore, he was a son of the late Joseph and Marguerite Lawler McDermott. He was a Navy veteran and Pearl Harbor survivor and received the Purple Heart. He was a member of Fleet Reserve, Grand Strand Patriotic Alliance, VFW Murrells Inlet Post 10420 and St. Michael’s Catholic Church, where he was an usher and a member of Knights of Columbus 4th degree. Surviving are his wife, Florence Ahman McDermott; a son, Sean McDermott of Modesta, Calif.; sisters, Cecilia French and Nancy Stigler, both of Catonsville, Md., Mary Claire Gabler of Littleton, Colo., Joan Salzburg of Beloit, Wis., and Betty Bettien of Murrells Inlet; and four grandchildren.
