Owen William McDonald, seafaring man of many years’ experience, was found dead yesterday morning in the kitchen of a rooming house on East Main street, with all jets on the gas range open. The discovery was made by a Negro maid employed there. The case was investigated by Dr. C. D J. Macdonald, city coroner, and Detective Leon Nowitzky, coroner’s investigator. Dr. Macdonald said it was a clear case of suicide, and no inquest was necessary. Captain McDonald was 49 years old and had been living in Norfolk for eight years. He was a native of Plattsburg, N.Y. Funeral services will be conducted at H. D. Oliver’s funeral apartments, 610-12 East Freemason street, this morning at 11 o’clock, with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
