Norfolk - Mrs. Anna McNorton McFadden, well-known local business woman, died at
her residence, 2515 Broad Creek road, Thursday July 1, following an illness of
six months.

Mrs. McFadden was the president and general manager of the J. C. Brooks &
Company, Inc., real estate firm, founded by her former husband, J. C. Brooks,
with whom she was associated in business until his death several years ago.

When Mr. Brooks died, virtually in the prime of life, he was one of this city’s
outstanding businessmen. Upon his passing his widow became the head of the firm
and assumed its entire managership. She later became the wife of A. Sampson
McFadden who has since been associated with her in the business.

She was the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Daniel McNorton of Yorktown VA, and had
been a resident of this city for a long number of years. In addition to her
husband, Mrs. McFadden is survived by two cousins, Misses Lula and Bertha McNorton.

Funeral services were conducted at Grace Episcopal Church Sunday at 1 p.m. with
the rector, the Rev. Richard B. Martin officiating. Pallbearers were Dr. S. F.
Coppage, Dr. A. J. Wells, C. A. Palmer, W. P. Clarke, C. S. Ferebee and Arthur
Reyes.

Interment was in Calvary Cemetery with B. F. King, funeral directors, in charge
of arrangements.
