Norfolk Virginian Pilot July 5, 1954

William Patten McFarland, 79, widower of Lily Bell McFarland and son of James M. 
and Mrs. Alice Hayes McFarland, a native of Columbia, Pa. and a resident of 
Norfolk for the past 60 years, died at a Norfolk hospital yesterday at 9:50 p.m. 
He was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church and resided at 219 West 32d 
Street.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Herman Capps and Mrs. John E. Wales, Jr., both 
of Norfolk and one son, Bernard P. McFarland, of Norfolk; seven grandchildren 
and six great-grandchildren.
The body was taken to the Ewell and Williamson Funeral Home pending funeral 
arrangements.
