Funeral services were conducted at St. John AME Church Sunday afternoon, Nov. 22, by the Rev. W. L. Hildebrand, pastor. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, with Riddick’s Funeral Service in charge. Mrs. McFarland, native Norfolkian, had been a self employed caterer for about ten years. An emeritus member of the St. John church stewardess board, she also belonged to the church Watchtower club. She held membership in the Daughters of Norfolk, ladies auxiliary of Eureka Lodge, St. Thomas Order of Eastern Star, and Metropolitan Social and Literary Club. Widow of Arthur McFarland, she was a daughter of the late George. W. Portlock Sr., and Mrs. Julia A. Portlock. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Julia Fields of Norfolk; two brothers, John H. Portlock, Norfolk, and George W. Portlock Jr., Philadelphia, PA.
