She was the daughter of the late Clarence Douthat Whiting and Texana Lenora Bonney Whiting. She was a native of Norfolk and a graduate of the old Leachwood Seminary. She was a member of the First Confirmation of St Andrew's Episcopal Church, of which she was an active member until her illness. Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Samuel W. McGann JR. and 1 sister, Mrs. John W. Stoakley, both of Norfolk; 2 nieces, Mrs. Henry J. Lankford of Norfolk and Mrs. Robert M. Minto of Stanford, California; 2 nephews, John Stoakley of Eustis, Florida and Samuel McGann Stoakley of Norfolk; 4 great nieces and 4 great nephews. The body was removed to the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. Funeral services will be conducted at the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. Monday, February 23, 1953 at 12:00 pm by the Rev Beverly Tucker White, rector of St Andrew's Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Pallbearers: E.W. McGann JR, E.W. McGann III, Alan McGann, John Shipp McGann, S. McGann Stoakley, Henry J. Lankford, William R. Hemingway and J. Randolph Coupland JR.
