Mrs. Eleanora Mary Batten McGuire, 94, widow of Patrick F. McGuire, former 
Norfolk building contractor, died yesterday at 11:15 a.m., at the residence of 
her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Growling, Sr., 302 Westover 
Avenue. 
A native of Princess Anne County, she had resided in Norfolk most of her life. 
Her late parents were Caleb and Mrs. Jacqueline Ward Batten.
Mrs. McGuire was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, of the Sodality, and a 
charter member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary, Ancient Order of Hibernians.
Besides Mrs. Growling, she is survived by two other daughters, Mrs. John S. 
Thatch and Mrs. Harry P. Moore, Sr., both of Norfolk; 12 grandsons, one 
granddaughter and 21 great-grandchildren.
The body was removed to the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, where rosary 
services will be held today at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted 
tomorrow at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s 
Cemetery.
