A native of Abbeville, SC, he lived here 29 years. He worked for the city of Norfolk seven years and was a member of St. Paul CME Church. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Asidine McHerrin and a son of Mrs. Channie Smith and the late Samuel McHerrin. Besides his mother, surviving are three sons, Samuel McHerrin of Hampton and Isaiah McHerrin and Barnes McHerrin of Norfolk; two daughters, Misses Geraldine McHerrin and Evon McHerrin of Norfolk; four sisters, Mrs. Bessie Jackson and Mrs. Carrie Lumas of Abbeville, Mrs. Georgia Williams of New York Mrs. Janis Childs of Baltimore; and three brothers, Walter Smith and Willie Smith of Abbeville and Elizah Smith of New York. Services were held in St. Paul CME Church by the Rev. Lawrence L. Craig. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, with Pretlow’s Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
