Benjamin Franklin McHorney, one of the most prominent figures in local shipping and civic circles and at one time a member of the board of aldermen, died yesterday afternoon at 4:20 o'clock at his residence, 2746 Ballentine Boulevard. Captain McHorney, who had been ill for some time, was a native of Currituck County, N.C., but for more than 45 years had been a resident here. He served as a member of the board of alderman for the team 1910-11. He was connected with several shipping firms here and was very active in civic and charitable undertakings. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mattie Walker McHorney and two nephews, Samuel B. of Norfolk and Walton F. McHorney of Scranton, N.C. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock at the residence. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
