W. L. Hamilton and the Rev. J. R. Johnson Jr. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with Chatman Funeral Home in charge. Mrs. McKenzie died Aug. 11 at 1:30 in a local hospital. She was a native of Norfolk but lived in Boston, MA, for a number of years and was acclaimed the best operatic singer that the colored race has produced in Boston. She studied drama and music for years under many great teachers. For 25 years she was the leading contralto in the William Rhodes Opera Society. She was the daughter of the late Michael Epps and Mrs. Sallie Epps Harris who survives her along with three sisters, Mrs. Lenora Epps Hunter, Mrs. Ruth Epps Clifton, Norfolk, and Mrs. Beatrice Epps Weeks of Boston MA.
