The death of Mrs. Ellen McKevitt, wife of Mr. M. McKevitt, at St. Vincent’s 
hospital at 9:30 o’clock Wednesday night, has cast a shadow of sorrow and gloom 
over an extensive circle of friends and acquaintances in this city and 
Portsmouth, in which cities she was widely known and universally esteemed for 
her many womanly qualities and Christian virtues. The deceased was formerly a 
Miss Ellen Mulholland, of Portsmouth, but had resided in Norfolk for quite a 
number of years. She was a consistent member of St. Mary’s Catholic church and 
was ever foremost in pushing forward the interest of every religious enterprise 
designed for the advancement of the kingdom of Christ in this world, and in her 
death her church has been bereft of one of its most ardent supporters, while the 
poor has lost a kind and beneficent friend. Her place among her co-workers in 
the church will be difficult to fill. The funeral will be solemnized from St. 
Mary’s Catholic church at 9 o’clock Saturday morning.
