Mr. McKevitt was 72 years old. The funeral will take place at 10 o’clock Tuesday morning at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Michael McKevitt was born in Ireland, but came to Norfolk nearly half a century ago. He was in business here for many years, and retired with a comfortable fortune from various enterprises in which he was interested. At the beginning and during the World War, Mr. McKevitt was one of the few property owners in the city who did not increase rents. In most cases he did not call for an increase, and when he did, it was merely sufficient to meet the increased cost of maintenance. He built, and still owned at the time of his death, the six-story McKevitt building at the corner of City Hall avenue and Martin’s lane. Mr. McKevitt is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Nellie McKevitt Bass; one son, James S. McKevitt; a niece, Miss Mollie Dalton, all of Norfolk; and also by five grandchildren. He did not belong to any social, nor beneficial organization.
