Bonita was born the third of six children on the 4th of February, 1918, in Green Bay, Wisconsin. It was there, at age 24, she met her future husband, Charles "Mac" McLane, who was serving in the U. S. Navy. They married in New York City in 1945, and remained married for 36 years until Mac's passing in 1981. She was also predeceased by her parents, 5 siblings, and a son, John L. McLane. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Michael McLane and Charles McLane Jr.; her daughter, Kathleen Dalby and her husband, Jim; grandchildren, Mande Mattinson and her husband, Michael, Amy Dickerson and her husband, Brad, Jeffery Dalby, and Justin Cranford; and 3 great-grandchildren, Ethan and Aiden Dickerson, and Connor Mattinson. Throughout her life Bonita was devoted to her Catholic faith. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Norfolk for over 50 years until moving to Chesapeake to live with her daughter. She then joined St. Stephen, Martyr Catholic Church where she enjoyed the company of the Amazing Grays until her health no longer permitted outings. Bonita dedicated her life to providing a loving and happy home for her family. When her children were young, she enjoyed being a stay-at-home-mom. She had leadership roles in the PTA and in many church activities and organizations. When the children were older, she resumed her career as a legal secretary. Never idle, Bonita enjoyed cooking, baking, knitting, sewing, needlepoint, playing cards, and reading. She was her happiest when in the company of family and friends. She was a very positive person, and looked for the good in everything and everyone. Her smile was a reflection of her inner warmth and grace. She was always available to help when needed, and was always generous to many causes and to those less fortunate. As a result of her engaging personality, Bonita was admired and respected by those who knew her throughout her life. She will be remembered as a kind and caring individual who always put the needs of others before her own. Her family and friends will miss her greatly, and will cherish her memory.
