A native of Norfolk and one of 13 children, she was the daughter of the late Stephen G. and Rosa Teagle Holmes and the widow of Lawrence P. McLaughlin. Mrs. McLaughlin was a member of the Basilica of Saint Mary of The Immaculate Conception. She is survived by three sons; Leonard A. Barks, Jr. (Laverne) of Portsmouth, retired Master Sgt. Alfred O. Barks (Nadine) of Decatur, GA, and Col. Michael D. Barks (Marie) of Newport News; a brother, Edwin Holmes of New York City; 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Basilica of Saint Mary of The Immaculate Conception by Father Robert Ruth. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. A wake service will be held today from 7 to 8 p.m. at Graves Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Alzheimer's Foundation in memory of Mrs. Eva Mae McLaughlin.
