Born in Istanbul, Turkey, to the late Nafi and Melise Baber, she came to Virginia to wed the love of her life, Austin John McLaughlin, in November 1949. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, to whom she remained faithful even in death, a brother, Suha Teoman Baber of Bodrum, Turkey, and a sister, Jale Baber Perry, of Virginia Beach, VA. Eda and Austin traveled the world when he worked for the Defense Dept. in overseas locations throughout the Middle East and the United States, eventually retiring to Florida, where they enjoyed many years together, continuing to travel throughout the United States and around the world. After Austin's death, Eda remained in Clearwater, Florida, residing at Clipper Cove Condominiums, where she enjoyed the companionship and social activities with her many friends and neighbors. She continued an active social life, including traveling, until a few months ago. Eda is survived by a brother, Ertugrul Cem Baber of Bodrum, Turkey; her niece, Asli Baber Keskinoglu and nephew Osman Baber, whom she raised as her own children from age nine years; nieces Zeyneb Baber Pehlivan, Berna Sakaoglu, Melis Mondry, Marie O'Brien, Patricia Murrell, Jean Musick, Ann Gelardi, Theresa Morton, Mary Murden, Marie Pogorelic, Rebecca Skeffington and Jean Hopkins, nephews Phillip Nafi Perry, John M. Cannon, John Galloway, Paul Galloway, Robert Galloway, Albert Galloway and Michael Galloway and their families and a host of loving friends. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov 19, at St. Mary's Cemetery, Norfolk, VA. Funeral arrangements are by H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel.
