Mr. McLaughlin was a native of York, Penn., and had resided in Norfolk for about 31 years. He was considered one of the outstanding railroad men of this section. His associates say he had a remarkable memory and could dispose of problems, troublesome to others, in short order and with almost infallible accuracy. He was appointed freight agent some time ago, succeeding C. F. Palmer, who retired. He had been assistant to Mr. Palmer. He resided at apartment 6, Graydon apartments, 616 Graydon Park. He was a son of the late Owen McLaughlin, and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Dawson McLaughlin, and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marie S. McLaughlin; two daughters, Mrs. M. J. Cannon, Jr. and Mrs. R. L. Galloway; four sons, Owen P., Frank M., Paul M. and Austin John McLaughlin and seven grandchildren, all of Norfolk. Three sisters, Misses Kathleen, Honore and Eunice McLaughlin, of York, two brothers, Joseph McLaughlin, of Wilmington, Del., and Private Eugene McLaughlin, U.S. Army, of California, and a stepson, John R. Monteiro, of Norfolk. The body was taken to the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 Colonial avenue, pending arrangements. McLAUGHLIN, JOHN PATRICK - At a local hospital, Tuesday, March 9, 1943, at 4:30 o’clock p.m., JOHN PATRICK, husband of Mrs. Marie S. McLaughlin, and son of the late Owen, and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Dawson McLaughlin, in the 54th year of his age. Remains will be taken from the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, No. 1501 Colonial avenue, to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, for services FRIDAY MORNING at 10 o’clock. Friends of the family are invited to attend.
