The Virginian Pilot July 8, 1900
The death of Mr. William W. McManus, a member of the City Council from the 
Second Ward, was announced by the tolling of the City Hall bell at 8 o'clock 
yesterday morning. He departed this life sometime during Friday night at St. 
Vincent's Hospital. The deceased had been in failing health for several months, 
and his demise was not altogether unexpected. Mr. McManus was born in Ireland, 
but came to this country in early life, residing first in New York, afterwards 
coming to Norfolk, where he has lived for a number of years. He is survived by 
a widow and one brother, the latter a resident of New York. The flag over the 
City Hall was at half-mast yesterday in respect to his memory.
The remains of Mr. McManus were moved from the hospital yesterday afternoon to 
the residence of his sister-in-law, Mrs. M.E. Parsons, No. 241 Chapel street. 
The funeral will be held from St. Mary's Catholic Church at 6 o'clock this 
afternoon and will be attended by the Emerald's, St. Patrick's and Screwmen's 
Beneficial Associations each of which the deceased was a member.

At St. Vincent's Hospital Saturday, July 7th, 1900 at 3 o'clock a.m. WM. 
McMANUS, aged 51 years.
The funeral will take place from St. Mary's Catholic Church THIS (Sunday 
AFTERNOON at 6 o'clock. Friends of the family are invited to attend.
