Norfolk Virginian Pilot December 13, 1943

Captain William James McNeeley, aged 72, well known retired Merchant Marine 
Captain, died at a local hospital yesterday morning at 5 o’clock, following a 
long illness. He was a native of Saute Ste. Marie, Mich., and had been a 
resident of Norfolk for 20 years, residing at 1355 Monterey Avenue, Larchmont. 
He was a son of William J. and Mrs. Eliza McNeeley, and is survived by his 
wife, Mrs. Sue Margaret Amos McNeeley, a son, William James McNeeley, Jr., of 
the U.S. Marine Corps, and two sisters, Mrs. Dick Hornstraw and Mrs. Vina 
Shield, of Brumley, Mich.
Funeral services will be conducted at the James V. Derry Funeral Chapel 
Wednesday morning at 11 o’clock. The Rev. H.W. Tiffany, D.D., pastor of Park 
Place Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
