John Andrew McPherson, native of Elizabeth City, NC, died Wednesday, April 28,
at a Petersburg hospital at the age of 77. He lived in Portsmouth, VA. and
Cleveland, Ohio. Since 1944 Mr. McPherson had made his home at 1336 W. 46th
street with his son, William T. McPherson, head of the science department at the
Booker T. Washington high school.

Funeral services for Mr. McPherson were held Monday, May 3, at the Mother Church
of God in Christ of Norfolk with the minister, Elder E. Lawrence Williams,
officiating.

The deceased was a devoted member and in his younger years an active worker in
the holiness church. He gave more than 55 years of faithful service in the holy
church.

In addition to his Norfolk son, who is also organist fo the Mother Church of God
in Christ and an alumnus of Virginia Union University, Mr. McPherson is survived
by two other sons, James A. McPherson, of Newark, NJ; and Joseph E. McPherson,
of New York City; one granddaughter and one great granddaughter and other
relatives.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Norfolk with Hale Funeral Home in charge.
