She was a sweet woman with a charming southern drawl who loved her family, friends, cooking, bridge and golf. Betty was the daughter of the late Marguerite Elizabeth Walker and John Thomas Walsh. She was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia Monger; her brother, Jack Walsh; and her first husband, Leo Flaherty. She attended Galax High School in Fredericksburg, Va., and married Leo Flaherty in 1948. While living in Norfolk, she was the former bookkeeper of Norfolk Catholic High School. She and Leo raised their six children in Ocean View. She was a member and former secretary of the Ocean Park Civic League and was a former member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband, Guy E. McSheffrey of Satellite Beach, Fla.; two sons, Patrick L. Flaherty and his wife Debbie of Riviera Beach, Fla., James L. Flaherty and his wife Lisa of Orlando, Fla.; four daughters, Winifred Flaherty of Virginia Beach, Margaret Garrison and her husband Mark of Novato, Calif., Rosemary Silverman and her husband Kenneth of San Rafael, Calif., and Jodie Moon and her husband Henry of Fort Davis, Texas; 10 grandsons, Richard, Patrick, Conor, Jack, Michael, Hank, Alex, Buddy, Chris and Judd; and nine granddaughters, Bridget, Katharine, Mary, Grace, Danielle, Jenna, Ashley, Allison and Jenny; and one great-grandson, Graham; a brother, Bill Walsh and his wife Trudy of Lorton, Va.; a sister, Dorothy Baldwin and her husband Godfrey of Virginia Beach; and a sister-in-law, Dot Walsh of Norfolk. The funeral will be held in the Norfolk Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. Saturday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Father John Dorgan. Burial will be private in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
