A. MEARS ~ Deputy Constable Stricken At Lodge Meeting, Dies Later At Home ~~ Funeral Services for Charles Augustus Mears, 62, deputy high constable who died suddenly at his home last night at 218 W. Seventeenth Street, after a stroke of apoplexy, will be held at Holloman Brown Funeral Home tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, Mr. Mears was attending a meeting of the Order of American Puritanswhen stricken. He was rushed home at 10 o'clock but twenty minutes later Dr. George Myers, who had been summoned, pronounced him dead. William R. Moore, the high constable, in whose office Mr. Mears had served for twelve years as deputy, was told of Mr. Mear's illness and furried to the home, but when he got there Mr. Mears was dead. Mr. Mears had been in good health so far as could be learned today and his sudden death came as a great shock to his large circle of friends in the city. Mr. Mears is survived by his wife, Mrs. Adeline Quillin Mears, and four daughters, Mrs. Page N. Windell, Mrs. D. B. Blaine and Miss Blanche and Virginia Mears. He also is survived by one brother, Edward Mears, of Eagle Rock, California, and two grandchildren. Mr. Mears was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and of the Order of American Puritans. He long had been a member of the Colonial Avenue Methodist Church and was one of the best known of the city officials. Rev. J. S. Gresham, pastor of Colonial Avenue Methodist Church, will officiate at the funeral services. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
