He was 94. He was surrounded by his family. Mr. Meath was a longtime resident of Norfolk, where he was born and raised. He lived for most of his life in the Ocean View area on the Chesapeake Bay. He moved to an apartment at The Hermitage, 1600 Westwood Ave., in September 2003. Mr. Meath was a career civil servant, working primarily in the areas of post-World War II/Naval Aviation Weapons Systems. Before his retirement in 1972, he served as the director of Fleet Readiness for the Bureau of Naval Weapons, Department of the Navy. Mr. Meath was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Norfolk. He was a Third Degree life member of the Father Robert Kealey Council of the Knights of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Lorena Fay Wasson Meath, formerly of Moorehead, Miss.; his brother, Harold F. Meath, formerly of Norfolk; his sisters, Francis Meath Crombe, formerly of Pebble Beach, Calif., and Mildred A. Meath, formerly of Norfolk; and his son, Kenneth Doran Meath, formerly of Richmond. He is survived by his sons, James Vincent Meath and William Dean Meath, both of Richmond. He was blessed in his life to have five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; as well as two caring and loving daughters-in-law, Nancy Mikula Meath and Chandra Beane Meath. The family will receive friends at Bliley's-Central, 3801 Augusta Ave., from 6 to 8 p.m. today. A private Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for the family at the Bliley chapel. Mr. Meath will be interred in a private service at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Norfolk. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the loving and professional care that the staff at The Hermitage gave Mr. Meath during the last five years of his life. The dedication and care given by all made his life meaningful, rewarding and secure.
