Meginley, aged 79, health officer of South Norfolk and active in church and fraternities, and perhaps one of the best known men of the Southside, died last night at his home, 1213 Chesapeake avenue, after an illness of several weeks. Mr. Meginley was a son of William C. and Mrs. Margaret Clark Meginley and was a life long resident of this section, his early life being spent at Ocean View. He conducted a roofing and sheet metal business in Berkley many years. He was active in politics and was considered a man of sound judgment, and his friends were numerous. As a health officer he was held in high esteem. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Osafo Meginley; two daughters, Mrs. R.H. Harrell, of Emporia and Mrs. E.E. Towe, of New Bern, N.C.; three sons, B.F., J.E., and W.C. Meginley, Jr., of this section; 13 grandchildren and one brother, C.M. Meginley, the latter of Portsmouth. Mr. Meginley was a member of the South Norfolk Baptist Church, Tidewater Council No. 30, Junior Order of United American Mechanics, and Berkley Camp 46, Woodmen of the World. The body was taken to the J.R. Williams Funeral Home, 1027 Chesapeake avenue, South Norfolk, pending funeral arrangements.
