VIRGINIA BEACH - John George “Jack” Mengel Jr., 76, of the 200 block of 34th 
St., a retired contractor, died Nov. 7,1988, in a hospital.
Mr. Mengel, a native of Norfolk, was a member of Christ and St. Luke’s Church, 
Norfolk.
Survivors include his wife, Ida Lane Mengel; a daughter, Jacqueline M. Duke of 
Kingsville, Texas; a son, John G. Mengel III of Las Vegas; two sisters, Anne M. 
Mullen and Margaret M. Grubb, both of Virginia Beach; a brother, Arthur W. 
Mengel Sr. of Louisville, Ky.; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in H.D. Oliver Funeral 
Apartments, Laskin Road, by the Rev. John Jordan. Burial will be in St. Mary’s 
Catholic Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad or to the 
American Cancer Society.
