Virginian Pilot and The Norfolk Landmark May 7, 1924 

William Wallace Mercer, aged 56, died suddenly yesterday morning at 6:30 o'clock 
at the residence, 1632 Willoughby Avenue.  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Anna 
Lee Mercer; two daughters, Misses Mary Elizabeth and Grace Lee Mercer; three sons, 
Leroy, Carlton and Reed Mercer; a sister, Mrs. E.M. Burgess and a brother, Samuel 
C. Mercer all of Norfolk. Funeral services will be conducted at the residence 
tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
