Virginian Pilot and The Norfolk Landmark December 30, 1921

Mrs. Virginia Columbia Mercer, 71 years old, died at 6:30 o'clock last night at 
the family residence, 207 East Twenty-ninth Street, after an illness of two weeks. 
She was the widow of Alphonso Mercer and daughter of the late S.S. and Mrs. 
Margaret Barnard Wilson, of Currituck, N.C., but had lived in this section forty-
five years. She is survived by three sons, W.W., H.A. and Alphonso Mercer. The 
funeral service will be conducted at the residence at 2:30 Saturday afternoon. 
Burial will be in the family lot in Elmwood Cemetery.
