MERCER, aged 19 years. The funeral will take place from McKendree Methodist Episcopal Church, Brambleton, on WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON, at 3 o'clock. Friends and acquaintances invited to attend. ****************************************************************************** McKendree M.E. Church was filled yesterday afternoon with the young people of Brambleton who had assembled to pay the last sad tribute of respect to their friend and associate, Samuel A. Mercer, who died on Monday after a protracted illness of four months with consumption. He was the eldest son of Mr. Alphonso Mercer and was loved and esteemed by all who knew him. He served McKendree Sunday School as librarian from the time of its organization until illness compelled him to leave his post and is affectionately remembered by every officer, teacher and scholar of the school. With all he was very popular. His funeral was preached by Rev. W.H. Edwards, the choir of the church singing several appropriate selections. His remains were interred in Elmwood Cemetery, the pallbearers being as follows: Howard Hudgins, Philip Williamson, Willie Cridlin, Willie Walters, Clay Thompson, Harry Griswold, John Baxter and Frank Townsend.
