Virginian Pilot January 4, 1972

Miss Alva W. Mercer, 77, of 127 W. 11th St. died in her home Sunday.
She was a daughter of Malachi and Mrs. Emma Ward Mercer. 
She was a lifelong resident of Norfolk and a former secretary with Southern 
Storage & Warehouse Co.
She is survived by two cousins, Cecil F. Portlock of Medford, N.J. and R. Leo 
Portlock of Sun City Center, Fla.
The body will be taken from Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home to Elmwood Cemetery for a 
funeral service Wednesday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Theodore A. Bashford.
