Virginian Pilot and The Norfolk Landmark October 2, 1924

William T. Mercer, aged 73, died suddenly yesterday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. 
He was a native of North Carolina and had lived in Norfolk for 30 years, having 
been employed as watchman at the National Bank of Commerce at the time of his 
death. Besides his wife, Mrs. Clara F. Mercer, he is survived by two half 
brothers, Wilson S. and Isaac N. Fentress.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral apartments of H.D. Oliver, 
610-612 East Freemason Street, tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock. The Rev. Sparks 
W. Melton, D.D., pastor of Freemason Street Baptist Church, will officiate. 
Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
