Norfolk Virginian Pilot July 4, 1944

Mrs. Emma Ward Mercer, widow of Malachi C. Mercer, died at the residence, 127 West 
Eleventh Street last night at 10:10 o'clock. She is survived by two daughters, 
Misses Alvah W. and Vivian C. Mercer and a sister, Mrs. M.A. Portlock, all of 
Norfolk. Mrs. Mercer was a native of Princess Anne County and was a resident of 
Norfolk most of her life. She was a member of the Colonial Avenue Methodist 
Church. 
Funeral services will be conducted at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home tomorrow 
afternoon at 4 o'clock. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
