Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Thursday, May 5, 1994
Dorothy Louise Epps Merchant of the 1800 block of Meadowlake Drive, a retired
cafeteria manager with the Virginia Beach Public School System, died May 3,
1994, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

She was a native of Norfolk and the daughter of the late Oliver and Alice Allen
Banks. She was a member of First Calvary Baptist Church, Norfolk, a former
Sunday School teacher and a member of the Eastern Star. She had also worked as a
beautician for 15 years.

Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn C. Carlisle and one son, Junius A.
Merchant Jr., both of Norfolk; one sister, Marjorie Epps of Smithfield, Va.; one
stepsister, Sarah B. Risher; one brother, Milton Banks of Norfolk; four
grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one aunt, Daisy Jackson of Disputanta,
Va.; a half sister of Newport News; and a host of nieces, nephews, other
relatives and friends.

A funeral will be at noon Saturday in Riddick Funeral Service Chapel. Burial
will be in Calvary Cemetery . Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the
funeral home.
