Merle, after a lingering illness, lasting several months, from asthma, died last evening at 6 o'clock at his home, 709 Lee Street. The deceased was an engineer by trade and had held positions on many of the tugs of the harbor, in which capacity he was well known and respected. He leaves a wife and several small children. The funeral will be conducted from the residence Sunday morning at 10 o'clock and the friends of the family are invited to attend. ******************************************************************** The funeral of the late C.V. Merkle, who died at his home, 709 Lee Street, Friday evening at 7 o'clock, will be conducted from the above residence this morning at 10 o'clock by Rev. A.J. Ramsey, pastor of the Gospel Church. Interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery. The deceased was born and reared in Portsmouth, but had lived in Berkley Ward most of the latter years of his life. He is survived by a wife and four children. He was a member of the Marine Engineers Beneficial Association and the Odd Fellows. Delegations from both organizations will attend the funeral. Merkle took place from his late residence 709 Lee Street, Sunday morning at 10 o'clock, and was conducted by Rev. M.L. Bryant, pastor of the Main Street Christian Church. The deceased was a member of the I.O.O.F. and the Marine Beneficial Association and delegations from these organizations attended the funeral in a body. The interment was in Magnolia Cemetery.
