Norfolk - Orazio Merlo, 86 of the 4200 block of Cheswick Lane, Virginia Beach, 
died May 27, 2015, and has gone to join his wife, Antonietta Casamento Merlo. Mr. 
Merlo was born in Gioiosa Marea, Sicily, Italy, and resided in Virginia Beach. Mr. 
Merlo was a prominent and well-known furniture maker and antiques restorer who 
immigrated to Norfolk in 1967 to work for Cicero's Inc. and later to own Merlo's 
Inc. Orazio was a passionate man who loved his wife with all his heart and soul 
and was committed to his children and family. He is survived by his five children; 
Alex Merlo of Norfolk, Sarina Bowen of Virginia Beach, Alfonso Merlo of Norfolk, 
Annamaria Sweetman of Dover, DE., and Mario Merlo of Norfolk. Mr. Merlo is also 
survived by his nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two brothers, Angelo 
and Nino Merlo, a sister Concetta Merlo of Gioiosa Marea, and many nieces and 
nephews. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday June 1, 2015 at 
St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Virginia Beach. Burial will be at St. 
Mary's Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 
Sunday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be 
made to St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church 4345 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia 
Beach, Va. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments Norfolk Chapel is handling arrangements.
