Merrick, 70, of 73 Edgehill Rd., Warwick, R.I., who was office manager of the Texas Oil Co. in Providence, R.I., until his retirement in 1950, died at the residence Tuesday at 10:20 a.m. after a short illness. He was born in Jamestown, N.Y. and was the son of Moses and Mrs. Mary Barton Merrick. He was a resident of Warwick for 24 years and was in the employ of the Texas Co. for 35 years. He was a member of the Church of the Transfiguration, Episcopal, of Edgewood, and was a member of the Bayside Golf Club. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Olive Ellis Merrick; a brother, Owen W. Merrick, of Portville, N.Y.; a stepbrother, James H. Barton, of Durham, N.C., and a stepsister, Mrs. Florence N. Grant, of Richmond. Funeral services will be conducted at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home tomorrow at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
