He was a native of Trenton, N.J. but had made his home in this section 30 years. Mr. Merrick came to South Norfolk from Olean, N.Y. 30 years ago to take a position with the James G. Wilson Manufacturing Co. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Merrick of New Jersey. Mr. Merrick was a member of Memorial Methodist Church, Olean Lodge No. 252, A.F. & A.M.; the Royal Arch Chapter and St. John's Commandery No. 24, K.P. of Olean. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Marietta Keller Merrick; two sons, Charles Merrick, of Providence, R.I. and Owen Merrick, of Elridge, Pa.; one stepson, J. Henry Barton, of Norfolk; one stepdaughter, Mrs. R.N. Grant, of Richmond; one sister, Miss Louise Merrick, of Trenton; six grandchildren and three step-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at the residence tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock. Burial will be in the family lot in Magnolia Cemetery.
