Mr. Lucius M. Merritt died at St. Vincent's Hospital at 5 o'clock a.m. yesterday
after an illness of brief duration, being sick only since last Friday.  He was
removed from his home to the hospital Sunday.
  The deceased was 40 years of age and is survived by a widow.  He was a clerk
in the office of the United States Shipping Company, Columbia building.  The
funeral will take place from the residence, No. 339 Duke street, at 3 o'clock
this afternoon.
