Ledger Dispatch, Mon., Sept. 24, 1917, pg. 11

The funeral of Mrs. Eliza J. Merton widow of Cornelius Merton, took pace at 3 
o’clock this afternoon at the funeral apartments of J.H. Holloman, and was 
largely attended. Rev. E.P. Miner, of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church officiating. 
There were many beautiful floral offerings. The burial was in Elmwood Cemetery, 
the pall-bearers being M.L. Bruce, I.W. Bruce, W.M. Bruce, David Craft and 
Lonnie Craft.
