A native of Russia, he came to this country as a child and lived for many years in Pittsburgh. He was connected with several of the largest furniture firms in that city. He came to Norfolk 10 years ago, and had operated the Art Furniture Company since that time. The business will be carried on by his family. He was a member of Beth El Temple. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Esther Safler Mervis; one son, Mayer Jac Mervis, and a daughter, Barbara H. Mervis, all of Norfolk; a brother, Joseph Mervis, of Pittsburgh; two sisters, Mrs. S. Setzer and Mrs. Freda Rosenfield, both of Los Angeles, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments by Rabbi Paul Reich, of Beth El Temple, tomorrow at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. ************************ David Mervis, 54, husband of Mrs. Esther Safler Mervis and son of the late Israel and Mrs. Belle Mervis, a native of Russia and a resident of Norfolk 14 years, died at the residence 5508 Hampton Boulevard, yesterday at 3 p.m. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Mayer Jay Mervis, and one daughter, Miss Barbara H. Mervis, both of Norfolk; one brother, Joseph Mervis, of Pittsburgh; two sisters, Mrs. S. Setzer and Mrs. Freda Rosenfield, both of Los Angeles, and several nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted at the H.D.Oliver Funeral Apartments tomorrow at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Paul Reich, D.D., rabbi of Beth El Temple, of which Mr. Mervis was a member. Hall, William Kirby, Reuben Bregman, Reuben Friedman, C.P. Harmon, Sidney Fisher and Louis Safler.
