Norfolk Virginian Pilot December 31, 1940
Thomas Walter Messick, Sr., aged 73, husband of Mrs. Alice Morriss Messick, a 
native of Florence, N.C. and a well known resident of Norfolk for a number of 
years, died at 12:35 o'clock yesterday morning at the residence 870 West Thirty-
fifth street.  Mr. Messick was a member of the Woodmen of the World, Junior 
Order United American Mechanics, and of the First Christian Church (Disciples).  
Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. T.L. Sharpe, Mrs. C.E. 
Rowe and Mrs. S. McReynolds; one son, Thomas Walter Messick, Jr., all of 
Norfolk; three grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the chapel of the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 
Colonial avenue, Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with the Rev. C.M. Gordon, 
D.D., pastor of the First Christian Church (Disciples), and the Rev. W.B. 
Crowell, pastor of the Colonial Place Church of God, officiating.  Interment 
will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
