Cobert L. Mickens Sr., 71, of the 5600 block of Poplar Hall Drive, passed away
Aug. 2, 2004. "Mick" or "Mickey," as he was affectionately called, was born June
24, 1933, in Chicago, Ill. He retired after 27 years of service to his country
in the U.S. Navy. He also retired after 15 years of service in civil service.
Cobert leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Peggy A. Mickens of Norfolk; four
daughters, Carol Mickens -Shields of Norfolk, Angela Early of Virginia Beach,
Gloria Hurst and Delores Fields both of Norfolk; six sons, William Brooks (Mary)
of Chesapeake, Cobert L. Mickens Jr. (Renee) of Duncan, Okla., John Mickens and
Eric Mickens , both of Norfolk, Randall Mickens of Washington, D.C. and Brian
Mickens of Denver, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; and a host
of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by a brother, James Mickens .

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at New Hope COGIC, 3232 Brest Ave.,
Pastor Calvin Durham officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery,
Norfolk. Family and friends will assemble at 5600 Poplar Hall Drive one hour
prior to the service for the procession to the church. Metropolitan Funeral
