Virginian-Pilot February 5, 1909
Mrs. Annie Loretta Milan, wife of John E. Milan, died at one of the city hospitals 
at 3 o’clock yesterday morning, following a surgical operation, aged 31 years. The 
deceased was born in Baltimore, Md., but had been a resident of Norfolk for 
sixteen years. Besides her husband, she is survived by a sister, Mrs. E. S. 
Joynes, of this city, and a brother, P. H. Allen, of Baltimore. She was well-
known, both in Baltimore and this city, where she leaves many friends who will 
learn with sorrow of her death. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic church, 
from which her funeral will be held at 10 o’clock Saturday morning.
