Norfolk Virginian Pilot July 26, 1945

                         Infant Victim Of Suffocation

William S. Miles, 3d, eight-month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. W.S. Miles, Jr., of 
523 Bart Street, Portsmouth, died of suffocation yesterday at 1:30 p.m., while 
taking milk from a bottle.
The child was being cared for by Mrs. J.A. McCoy, at 516 Bart Street, while the 
mother was working in the Navy Yard.
Dr. Joseph C. Dunford, the family physician, responded to an emergency call 
along with the Fire Department resuscitator squad headed by Assistant Chief 
Stanley H. Hall. Dr. Dunford said the infant apparently strangled over its milk.
The resuscitator squad worked on the baby in the assistant chief's car while 
transporting it to King's Daughters' Hospital. Efforts to resuscitate continued 
there for an hour.
The body was taken to Sykes Funeral Home, Berkley.
The child's father is in the Navy Air Forces, stationed on the West Coast. 
Besides his parents, he is survived by his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. 
William S. Miles, Sr. and maternal grandfather, Samuel B. Stengel.

MILES, WILLIAM STEVEN, III - At the residence, 523 Bart Street, Portsmouth, 
Wednesday afternoon, July 25, 1945, WILLIAM STEVEN MILES, III, son of William 
Steven Miles, Jr. and Mrs. Bertie Mae Stengle Miles, aged 8 months. The body was 
removed to the Sykes Funeral Home, 124 East Berkley Avenue, where funeral 
services will be conducted SUNDAY AFTERNOON at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in 
Magnolia Cemetery.
