Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Sunday, April 8, 2001 
Virginia G. Miller, 92, formerly of the 5600 block of Tidewater Drive, was born
in Princess Anne County on March 12, 1909, to the late Mrs. Dinah Staves and Mr.
William H. Gardner, and died April 6, 2001, in Norfolk Health Care.

She attended Loch Cary School of Booker T. Washington. She joined First Baptist
Church under the pastorate of the late Dr. Richard H. Bowling Jr. at an early age.

She was married to the late Joseph C. Miller.

She retired from the Academy Electrical Corp. in New York City. She was a member
of Friends of Shepherd Way, the Dora E. Billups Missionary Circle, Gleanus Club,
Helpers Club, Do All We Can Do Club, Darcus Sunday School Class, First Baptist
Senior Club, Leisure House Club, Norfolk Federation of Colored Women Club, the
Norfolk State University Brambleton Center Senior Citizens Club, Phyllis
Wheatley Circle Inc. No. 1, Ladies Auxiliary No. 1 to the Sons of Norfolk,
United Order of Tents of JRG and JU, Southern District No. 1.

Survivors include cousins, Viola Roberts, Clarence Edward Elliott and wife
Carolyn, Sherri Elliott, Maggie Spencer, Ethel Moore and husband Herman and
daughter Melvinna, and Josephine K. Young.

A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church, Bute
Street, by Dr. Robert Murry. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Family and
friends will assemble at 12:30 p.m. at the Hale Funeral Home the day of the
service.
